2020-11-06 Radiology Announcement: MR Director

November 6, 2020

Department of Radiology

Dear Colleagues,

After 8 years successfully leading the MRRC, Dr. Hoby Hetherington has decided to retire from academia and he will transition to the private sector at the end of November. I would like to personally thank Hoby for his dedicated leadership of the MRRC facility and his significant scientific accomplishments during his time at in our department. Over these past years Hoby oversaw significant growth in funded grants being performed on MRRC magnets. As a direct result of his excellent management, the MRRC service center revenue grew significantly. Dr. Heatherington successfully directed upgrades of all three PRISMA scanners by combining Radiology departmental support with an NIH funded S10 instrumentation grant. We wish Hoby all of the best in his new position.

To prepare for this transition, an interim leadership structure will be implemented while we recruit for a new MRRC Director. Dr. Ashok Panigrahy, Dr. Beatriz Luna, and Dr. Chan Moon will collectively oversee the MRRC effective December 1st.

Sincerely,

Jules H. Sumkin, DO, FACR
