2021-07-30 MR Simulator at MRRC

July 30, 2021

Hello,

We have recently reopened the MR Simulator or mock scanner at the MRRC. Currently it is locked on the scheduling system because we would like everyone to go through a brief training or reintroduction before using it. If you would like to schedule a training session for yourself or members of your staff, please contact Steve Hegedus at sjh38@pitt.edu.

The Simulator provides an environment that looks similar to the bore of an MRI scanner, complete with a head coil, but without the magnetic field. It allows you to introduce subjects who may be claustrophobic or otherwise anxious to the MR environment without needing to schedule the actual scanner. You can play recordings of “scanner noises” while the subject is in the bore. There is also a Motrack head motion tracking system to help train subjects to keep still. There is a PC with Eprime 2 and 3 and Matlab software and response gloves as well.

If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a training session, please contact Steve Hegedus at sjh38@pitt.edu.

Thank you,

Steve Hegedus
